As of today, 20 teams have signed up for the Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race. Katie is one of them. We are both excited because it's the first race of KCM's season. We are heading up to the UP after 1:00 pm. The musher's meeting is this evening. All 7 dogs, plus the musher and the 2 handlers are excited and ready. We are packed and roaring to see what this weekend brings us!! Wish Katie luck on her first mid distance sled dog race!! One step closer for her to reach her goal of the Jr. Iditarod next year!!
What better way to spend New Years than with a dog run? We took out all 11 dogs, 2 rigs, and 5 kids. Only went 4 miles but it was windy and wanted to get the other kids home. Dogs did great and held a steady pace despite the fact that they were pulling around 750 pounds. Also my team is officially registered in the Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race. I am entered in the sportsman 6 dog mid distance class. My race team consists of Cloud and Stormy in lead, Panda and Bandit, and then Rocket and Racer in wheel. The spare dog tagging along will be Taruk for this race. The race is just over a week away and we plan be driving up to the UP next Friday. I can't wait for my first race this season and my first mid distance race ever!! My goal is to just finish the race with happy, healthy dogs that are willing to take a short break but then start running all over again!!
