Meet the Musher
Hi Everyone!
My name is Carlleen Brehmer and I am a 24 year old musher that lives in Boise, Idaho. When you look in my room, you will see a collection of huskies, a bookshelf full of mushing books, and pictures of sled dogs. My family and friends know that I am obsessed with sled dogs. My family and friends know that is all I want for my birthday and Christmas. I have the coolest picture that my little cousin made just for me. I have it framed and hanging on my wall. I have always had a dog in my life, starting before I was even born. I got my first dog, Teddy when I was only 2 years old!
Today I am a girl with 2 sled dogs that I love dearly. I am a senior in college and now live in a totally different state! I am busy working away at my college degree and love to take photos, read, color, and spend time with animals. My goal is to one day own my own sled dog touring company and petting zoo. I have many cousins that I like to hang out with and one really good friend. I like to keep busy and if not busy then you will catch me trying to catch some zzz's or spending time trying to do something.

How I got started in this sled dog community
I guess I can say my addiction to this sport is in all thanks to my Uncle. Back when I was in 5th grade, my family and I went to go watch my uncle and 2 cousins race. After watching him run his dogs and see how it all worked, I told my parents that that is what I wanted to do. Since then, I have raced in the two dog-junior sled class my 1st year and moved up to three dog junior sled class my 2nd and 3rd year. I've ran 4-6 dogs in sprint racing, ran 6 dogs in a mid-distance 31 mile race, and handled for an Iditarod musher. I have had my eyes set on running the Jr. Iditarod since my 2nd year of racing, but now that I am no longer eligible to run that race I am going to try for the Iditarod. I have a passion for sled dog racing. I am very ambitious and determined to reach my goal of the Iditarod.
Running sled dogs is a great way to get out doors and enjoy the winter in an earth friendly way. Also, taking care of a kennel of dogs is very exciting and fun although hard work at times. If you are interested in getting some sled dogs of your own make sure you do your research first!! I also warn you: SLED DOG RACING IS ADDICTING!!!
