The Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race. We did back to back 20 miles for the first time this season. WE finished last, but that was of the people who finished in the 6 dog sportsman class. I think our average pace was around 8 miles an hour, we completed our goal and were faster than we were at the Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race, so I am happy. We had a great time both day, day two was really windy, but we were running through the woods most of the time so it didn't affect us much. The Younger dogs race this race, and the team was of Cloud and Stormy, Panda and Milly, Taruk and Bandit. Sam was brought along just in case one of them didn't pass the vet check.

Katie's two of Wausau. The dogs ran great she said; Milly and Bandit lead past everything like champs. No tangles, and that helped her time. She shaved two minutes off but still dropped back a few places. Over all Katie is very happy with the dogs. Still waiting on a few parts to finish the blog post about the Apostle Island race. That blog will be posted in a few days. Now next weekend is Antigo. Katie will be racing 4 dogs and the team is TBD, wish her luck!!Now next weekend is Antigo, we will be racing 4 dog the team is TBD, wish us luck Hello all, Carlleen here. Katie is busy trying to catch up with sleep and school work and what not so I don't have the stories from day 2 of the last sprint race or the Apostle Island Race. Unfortunately, due to snow conditions the mid distance race in MN was canceled for this weekend. It's not the best, but it will give time for both musher and dogs to rest up. Maybe I can get an update or two from Katie. In the meantime, let's all enjoy the Sportsman 4 dog class YouTube video of the Willow Springs race. Katie and her team are about 6 minutes in. Enjoy!! Here's the update you all have been waiting for!! Katie is in dead last, but she is working with a younger team for this race so they get more race experience. There is only about 27 minutes between her and the next person in front of her. Maybe tomorrow will be a better run? Who knows? Only time will tell. I also heard she's being a big help to the larger teams! Shout out to Katie as she runs her first 2 day mid distance race this weekend!! Her team consisting of Stormy, Panda, Cloud, Milly, Bandit, and Taruk will be traveling 20.5 miles both Saturday and Sunday. She won't be on the trail over night, how this race goes is she travels that distance and comes back to the handler/truck area and then does the same thing again Sunday. She's bib number 46.... good luck to you cousin!! Bidding you well wishes for your trail run. I wish I could be there for you at this race but I'm cheering for you all the way from Boise!! Trust me... I will be watching the computer for any and all updates! This weekend instead of going to the 3 day race in Land O'Lakes, my team and I will be heading to the Apostle Island sled dog race. I am entered in the 6 dog sportsman class. There are 20 entries in my class. Starting with bib 40, I am number 46th to head out. This means I am the 6th musher to leave the chute. My line up for the team this race is Panda and Cloud, Milly and Stormy, Bandit and Taruk. Sam will the extra dog this time.
