What better way to spend New Years than with a dog run? We took out all 11 dogs, 2 rigs, and 5 kids. Only went 4 miles but it was windy and wanted to get the other kids home. Dogs did great and held a steady pace despite the fact that they were pulling around 750 pounds. Also my team is officially registered in the Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race. I am entered in the sportsman 6 dog mid distance class. My race team consists of Cloud and Stormy in lead, Panda and Bandit, and then Rocket and Racer in wheel. The spare dog tagging along will be Taruk for this race. The race is just over a week away and we plan be driving up to the UP next Friday. I can't wait for my first race this season and my first mid distance race ever!! My goal is to just finish the race with happy, healthy dogs that are willing to take a short break but then start running all over again!!

Over the next few days you will be getting quite a bit of updates!! Katie tells me someone from another kennel sent her some items for the Jr. Iditarod. Included was a note that said good luck achieving your goals girl!! I'm rooting for you! She's gonna tell you what was included, thank that person online, and post some pictures of the items!! I'm going to share photos with you of being reunited with my dogs and everything else. I won't be seeing Katie and her dogs for some time or sooner, who know? I won't tell.
By the way, if you aren't unable to tell by this post... I head back to WI today!! I won't get in until really late tonight but it's still better than nothing! I can't wait to be home sweet home again. It's really different from here. Lastly... if you do need a idea for Christmas gifts or presents; why not help out the up and rising KCM kennels? We are always looking for donations and items for our kennel. Contact either Katie or I, or even donate on the main page to Katie's Jr. Iditarod fund! We will include you on our sponsorship page if you would like, write about you in a blog page and send you a thank you! Please help us out this 2014 Christmas!!
Vote for Chipmunk and Dingo to become the next Canine superstars!! They truly are my superstars in life!! IF you don't know much about them... check out their bios under meet the team-the race team. OR... scroll through the old blog posts and see the little info these dogs have done for me in my life. Let's make Chipmunk and Dingo the next superstars in this world!!! We CAN all work together to make it happen, one vote at a time.
For those people who keep telling me to give up on the Jr. Iditarod. You say that I will not be ready, there are things I don't know, the dogs and I will never be in condition, and I don't have the time.
I say, what I don't know I will learn, the dogs and I are training hard to prepare, I will make time there is a reason that I have devoted my after school time to the dogs instead of sports, they are my sport, and I will be ready. the unconditional love my dogs give me. I show it every time I am with them. Showering them with kisses, hugs, and treats. The smile on my face that doesn't go away. The passion in my eyes. The most thankful thing I am thankful for is the updates my parents give me as I am away at college. The little things like.... ~"Dingo is begging for the lasagna." ~"Chipmunk is dumb. After we feed her and let her outside she goes and eats dirt" (my brother) ~"Not after 3 minutes after you're brother gets off the black chair Dingo goes and hops on it like she owns it" ~"Dingo sure is talkative." ~"Dogs are sitting outside like guard dogs" (they really suck at guard dogs though) The best part is when I call my mom at home and she puts me on speaker and I "talk" to Chipmunk and Dingo. I sit there and bark and howl at them and get them to recognize my voice and they talk back a little bit. I can't wait for the day I get to go home and just spend time with them!! I hope they remember me! Hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving, I know I will. Decided to go for a run with the dogs today before I have to go baby sit at 4:30. The dogs started off good, they were moving fast. I had planned to do 4 miles with this team, and then 8 with the other given the time that I had. I decided to take them up Lemrick; a nice hilly road because they needed the practice and then I was gong to swing back and take Grimms home. The run went great until the turn onto Grimms Road. The dogs just would not taking it, so there I am in the middle of a 4 way intersection trying to get the dogs to go haw, when I see are car come over the hill in the distance. That meant he will be here in less than 30 seconds when suddenly the dogs decided that it is a great idea to go gee. Well whatever direction I am getting them away from this car coming over a blind hill. So long story short, we ended up going 12 miles instead of 4. But the dogs kept trucking the whole way, and with stops included we were going about 8 miles per hour, not bad considering they have never gone that distance before.
I had a wedding yesterday and didn't get home to feed the dogs until mid-night. Needless to say they weren't very happy with me for making them wait so long. Then I got a wonderful surprise this morning waking up to snow!! Maybe winter will come early this year! (sorry to all you people who don't like to cold). Also while we were in Madison yesterday we picked up a new addition to the rabbit herd, welcoming PJ's Isabelle to our herd, I cant wait to show her.
Hello everyone, I have been trying to keep you updated, but I am still new to this whole running a blog thing. KCM kennels made the news. Thanks to Carlleen typing them that I was here they came out and did a story about the dogs and I. Because the news made it so obvious that I wanted to run the Jr. Iditarod in 2016 I figured I would put it here and confirm anyone's suspicions. I had been keeping it more or less a secret as I collected dogs and personal savings for it. However it is only about a year away and there is no way that my personal savings will cover driving down there, or any of the other supplies that I will need. So I have started a fundraiser. The fundraiser page and information about the fundraiser will be posted on the next post.
Until next time, Katie Hey everyone! There hasn't been much excitement for me here in Boise as there is back in Wisconsin, but still!! This past weekend I was able to head on out to a sled dog kennel about 90 minutes north of Boise and train dogs for the weekend!! It was a bunch of fun! It reminded me on how much I missed being able to work and be around dogs. I learned so much from the guy and even went on 2 training runs with him, the first being 4 miles with 7 dogs, the second being 6 miles with 7 dogs. His race is coming up soon... the 3rd week of December! Wow... that is earlier than my racing season! |
